Unlike Asian American women, who have long been fetishized in the West, we have been desexualized ever since the first Chinese communities immigrated to the US. Many months later, after more dates, kisses and moments of vulnerability over stinky tofu, we decided to get married. We had a lot in common such as enjoying anime, video games and metal music. We would often talk on Myspace. It's fitting that some of the people I spoke to have embraced their backgrounds as they negotiate the challenges that come with dating as Asian Australian men.
